US Indicts Ukrainian In ‘Raccoon Stealer’ Malware Scheme

The US Department of Justice has indicted a Ukrainian national for allegedly running a malware scheme that stole tens of millions of dollars from banks and other businesses. The man, Denis Klimenko, is accused of deploying the Zeus Trojan to attack victims' computers in order to steal their financial data. From there, he allegedly sold this information on the black market.

Zeus was one of the most popular variants of malware back in the day because it was able to hijack infected machines and extract sensitive data like login credentials and banking information. It's still used today as part of massive cybercrime schemes, primarily targeting small business owners who don't have adequate security measures in place.

Since 2014, Zeus has been responsible for infecting more than 1 million users across 150 countries worldwide. This indictment marks the first time that someone has been criminally charged for using this particular variant of malware.

This case serves as a reminder that everyone needs to take precautions against online threats - even those who aren't directly affected by them! By following simple SAFETY tips like installing updated antivirus software and up-to-date firewall protections, you can help protect your computer from these malicious attacks
